AOL mailserver settings

Thank you for your welcome message. I've joined this forum to gain some information. I am an old CompuServe member which you probably know who is maintained by AOL servers. However AOL don't seem able to provide the information I need.

Recently, due to corruption on my PC I had to rebuild it, having done so now I need to re-set all my email account settings. I'm using MS Outlook 2007 as my email client, I need to find out the account/ server settings.

Can you help or advise where I should post this question on this forum to gain the support answers I need?

Setting up access to the AOL or AIM Mail servers is simple, and the settings are similar for most e-mail applications.

The basic information that you need to set up using IMAP and POP3 is as follows:

    * Your e-mail address is screenname@aol.com or screenname@aim.com.
    * Be sure to include the @aol.com or @aim.com suffix.
    * The incoming mail (POP) server address is imap.aol.com and imap.aim.com for IMAP, and pop.aol.com or pop.aim.com for POP3.
    * Check the box for leaving messages on the server.
    * The outgoing mail (SMTP) server address is smtp.aol.com or smtp.aim.com, port: 587.
    * Your user name is your AOL or AIM screen name.
    * Your password is your AOL or AIM password.

Regarding your user name there were special arrangement migrating CompuServe e-mail accounts to the AOL system. I am not sure whether the arrangements here are identical for those outside Holland. I myself kept my compuserve.com e-mail address for one thing.

However I don 't have an AOL or AIM an email address. My address is 10062.2214 @ compuserve.com. The instructions on this website, explicitly state: --

"Be sure to include the@aol.com or@aim.com suffix.

As my address is '100627 .2214 @ compuserve.com '

I hardly think this will work and enable me to download my emails!

That is what I use too, but it could well be different outside Holland.

Numerical addresses were made possible later too. But I also recall members had to access the new mailbox within a certain time frame to avoid the old box being removed entirely instead of being migrated.

Try the Help Community as suggested. Sounds like the best option to get things clear quickly.

Welcome to this Forum

Your server settings are correct. However, have you migrated your old Classic mailbox to the 'new' AOL-based mailsystem? Last summer all Classic members were required to do so. If you have not migrated your mailbox then we have a total different challenge.

It's still possible to generate new @compuserve.com addresses though.

Have you tried going to sign on to http://webmail.compuserve.com, using your full email address (you can try both your <name>@compuserve.com and <numeric>@compuserve.com addresses) and password? Does that work?

Ja ik weet dat mijn server settings goed zijn.

Zijn ongelooflijk beroerd terug te vinden op het internet.


Afgelopen zomer keurig de migratie doorlopen.

Daar kan ik alleen inloggen met mijn naam adres@compuserve.com
Het numerieke adres wordt daar niet geaccepteerd.

Terwijl als ik voor de flauwekul een mail stuur naar mijn numerieke adres dit wel aankomt.

Het zal wel niks met elkaar te maken hebben, maar het numerieke adres gebruik(te) ik ook bij de CS forums,
dat gaat met een ander password dan wat ik zou moeten gebruiken bij de migreerde e-mail.

Ik kan ook alleen inloggen met mijn niet-numerieke mailadres, maar daarna kan ik eventueel wel e-mail versturen vanaf het numerieke mailadres. Heb jij dat ook? Zie bijgaand plaatje.
